The gig was awesome. I mean, a ton of people came! I was really surprised, and so flattered. It was a little awkward after the show, though, when I went to get paid. You only get paid if you bring 20 people (that’s a lot, trust me), but Karen and I counted up the friends who’d paid that night and there was at least 23 (a “ton”, in fact). So I strode confidently up to the till and asked for my money. “Sorry, mate, only had 16 for you tonight.” I turned to the booker, Andy, who is a really nice guy and has given me a lot of support. . . But he shrugged sheepishly and said, “Yeah, you had a bunch of people, I don’t know what happened. But we can’t pay you if the numbers aren’t in the till. . .”
So that was a bummer.
But I didn’t lose my voice, despite rampant sniffling. And the new song, “Stepchild” (another Dave Stanke collaboration), was actually one of the better ones in the set. Next show, though, I’m determined to add something, as promised last time. I’ve already written a cello part for “Stepchild” and “Only One Girl for Me”. . . That’s right, I’m about to get all Damien Rice on y’all’s ass. . .

Gordito,
Congrats on a successful gig! I haven’t heard from you in months and months. I find out where I match in a week.
Would love to talk to you. Best way to get in touch?
Miss you much. Love to K.

Gordon, I don’t know anything about the music you are playing, but I’m so glad to see you are keeping up with your music. I once asked David if he thought I was an optimist or a pessimist and he said I was a historian. I’m a historian to the bottom of my being, as you are a musician.

Gordon, will you post an MP3 of Stepchild? Us yanks can’t just pop to the pub to hear you sing it. Maybe the club will count us as cyber-audience members and then you’ll get your cut of the door.

Bloody Limey’s. First it’s taxation without representation, and then they screw you out of your just due. I declare revolution.

1. Superstar Okay is a wicked song.
2. Yay.
3. Both to test your willingness to inclue a horn section and to memorialize your blog-headline-writing wit, I vote for a Chicago cover as the new add to the setlist.
